Medical Disclaimer
In an emergency, contact a veterinarian or emergency animal hospital immediately. Do not delay veterinary care to try acupuncture, acupressure, supplements or home treatment. Signs that need urgent care include sudden inability to walk, severe pain, difficulty breathing, repeated vomiting, seizures, collapse, inability to urinate and heavy bleeding.
Educational information only
Everything on PetAcu, including guides, condition pages, acupuncture point references, the clinic directory and resources, is for general education. It is not veterinary advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it is not a substitute for the judgment of a licensed veterinarian who has examined your animal.
No veterinarian–client relationship
Using this website, emailing us or contacting a clinic found here does not create a veterinarian–client relationship with PetAcu. We do not examine animals and cannot assess your animal’s condition.
Acupuncture and the evidence
- Acupuncture is used alongside conventional veterinary care. It is not a replacement for diagnosis, surgery, medication or rehabilitation that a veterinarian recommends.
- Evidence for specific uses in animals varies in quality. Our pages separate traditional use from research findings, and nothing on this site guarantees an outcome.
- Acupuncture should be performed by a licensed veterinarian or by someone working under veterinary supervision where the law requires it. Rules differ by country, state and province.
Acupressure, herbs and supplements
Any home acupressure described on this site is general and should be tried only after your veterinarian agrees it is suitable. Do not give Chinese herbal products, patent medicines, supplements or human medicines to an animal without veterinary guidance. Some are unsafe for certain species, conditions or medications.
Clinic directory
Clinics in the directory are independent businesses. A listing is not a recommendation or a guarantee of quality, credentials, availability or results. Check the clinic’s licence and qualifications yourself and confirm prices, hours and services with the clinic. See our Editorial Policy for what our listing labels mean.
